-CONTINUED-
Slowly, the worshippers began to rebuild their temple, their faith. Two hundred years passed below the surface, and the Temple of the Sun Goddess was reformed, piece by piece, follower by follower, Zinhai at its helm.
Soon, it was discovered that the Chosen of the Sun Goddess was with child. And the worshippers rejoiced - for surely this, one milennia past, the next Sunborn would come to pass.
But such was not reality. The child of Zinhai was begotten of a slave - an impure child, a child of only half-blood. The child possessed no Eye. No mark. And worse yet, the child was cursed with Elven skin, the mark of they that are shunned by the Sun. The child burned in its light, forever to remain in the shadows.
The decision was quickly made. The child had to be destroyed. For not only had it been a cursed infant, the mother had passed in giving birth to him.
And so it was that the slave, Skaa, made his way to the surface, child in his arms, to the only place he had found solace after the dwarven invasion. Where the Father Abbot of Ariya Monastery had given him repose. Safety.
He left the child upon the steps and ran into the darkness, soon pierced by the worshippers’ spears.
But there was a story. A story passed down through the bloodline of the Sunborn. A legend of a child whose Mark of the Goddess was not present in the sapphire Eye, but in the snow-white skin of they who walked amongst the Sun.
A child who would ascend into the heavens...and achieve immortality.
